The Wellbeing Design Consultation

90 minutes to unfurl the potential of your home or workspace

without committing to a full design or remodel.

A room is never neutral: the light, the sound, and the materials shape how you think and feel inside it. The Wellbeing Design Consultation gives you expert, practical guidance to create a space that supports wellbeing, workflow, and lifestyle.

This is for you if…

  • You want a space that reflects your values, supports your routines, and feels better to be in on a day-to-day basis

  • You're overwhelmed by options and want clear direction about what to change and why

  • You've heard of biophilic design and want to know what it looks like in your home or workplace

  • You run a space that does real work on people and you need it to support them in a meaningful way

  • You want a focused first step before deciding whether to move into a larger project

How it works

Three steps, a straightforward approach.

Discovery

Before we meet, you’ll fill out a short intake form to uncover your desired outcome, and real-life constraints.

We take into consideration things like busy schedules, kids, pets, allergies, and sensory needs at home, or building codes, different workstyles, and shifting headcounts at work.

Your consultation will be customized to what the intake surfaces.

Walkthrough

Your session will be in-person if you’re in the Portland area, virtually if not. You’ll get a dedicated 90-minutes with Samantha, a biophilic design certified expert, where we’ll address each of the following characteristics of your space:

  1. Lighting: color temperature, brightness, daylight patterns, evening light levels, circadian alignment

  2. Acoustics: echo and reverberation, hard-to-soft surface ratio, absorptive materials, background noise sources

  3. Air quality: airflow, ventilation, humidity, purification, scent

  4. Layout and Flow: functional storage, zone definition (focus, rest, gathering), transitions, circulation paths, sightlines, seating orientation

  5. Materials and Texture: layering solid wood, stone, and natural-fiber textiles, regional sourcing, durability and patina

  6. Sensory ease: glare, flicker, visual overstimulation, scent sensitivities; calibrated to the people using the room

  7. Indoor-outdoor connection: direct and indirect access to nature, patio and balcony flow, visual quiet, plants or other living elements.

Action plan

Get tangible next steps you can implement on your own (or we make it happen for you!)

Within 1 week you'll have the recording and a detailed written recap: what we found and what to change first, in priority order, so you can carry out the plan on your own, or continue working with me to bring the ideas to life. Through the entire process, I’ll be focusing on how the space makes you feel and how you want or need it to function. By the end you’ll be attuned to what needs to be changed so your space feels good and flows with wellbeing.

Why it works

Did you know that you're hardwired to seek connection to nature?

It's why a walk clears your head, but a windowless room wears you down. Or why certain places make you feel relaxed and others put you on edge. Our minds evolved alongside nature, so when we're cut off from it for too long, we feel it. Research shows that nurturing this biological instinct is one of the most reliable ways to improve wellbeing, reduce stress, and help us feel at ease. Yet most of us spend our days indoors and disconnected from all of it.

I created The Wellbeing Design Consultation as an accessible way to change that and to transform the daily lives of busy people like you.

We’ll trace this deep pull toward living things — plants, sunlight, moving water, natural light and texture — to build a stronger connection with nature in your home or workplace. By the end of our time together, you’ll know how to apply scientifically backed principles and tried-and-true frameworks that will make your space feel calmer, more alive, and easier to be in… using the theory of biophilic design.

What is Biophilic Design?

  • The practice of building connection to nature into the places where we live, work, and play

  • A thoughtful way to create spaces that connect people with nature to improve how we feel and function.

  • A multi-disciplinary approach that taps into our inborn tendency to focus on life and lifelike processes in our daily spaces.

  • The practice of helping people feel calmer, healthier, and more connected to nature through light, materials, layout, sensory comfort, and living elements.

  • Grounded in care for the earth and all living beings.

What is NOT Biophilic Design?

  • Just "adding plants." Plants are beautiful, but could easily become a stressor rather than a stress-reducer.

  • A design trend or aesthetic. It’s not about style, it’s about how your mind and body responds to an environment.

  • A one-size-fits-all approach. The beauty of biophilic design is just how vast its application is.

Biophilic design is bigger than an aesthetic preference: it is a way of orienting the mind and body that supports emotional regulation, mental clarity, and physical wellbeing.

When your living or working space includes natural details that engage the senses, it taps into that deep impulse to care, observe, and connect.
