Plantscaping a Portland healthcare office

About the project
The client's directive went something like this: 'go wild, but not too wild with the plants—somewhere between a tabletop sprout and a full-on, indoor rainforest.'
I knew exactly how to strike that balance. By maximizing the vertical space available, I arranged plants in WallyGrow planters and mounted them throughout the area. Waiting areas, stairwells, and walls near offices were adorned with greenery. My favorite kind of wall art!
These additions immediately provided a more welcoming environment for clients, who could now enjoy a green wall instead of a blank white one while waiting for their appointments. After all, therapy is about healing, and the greenery surely enhances that atmosphere.
And of course, what's a therapy office without a zen garden? Thanks to the local Portland company Oleander Earthworks, we created a sensory experience with handmade textured zen garden balls. If you're interested in crafting a zen garden with a touch of the otherworldly, definitely check them out.
In a space rich with traditional architectural details, I aimed to introduce modern shapes that complemented its mid-century aesthetic. Lush wall gardens, zen gardens, and kokedama balls were strategically placed in high-traffic areas. The goal was to achieve an abundant yet orderly arrangement of greenery.
